Painting the Bedroom

FullSizeRenderWe picked a purple for our bedroom because the other pieces of the room are so neutral. It looks a touch dark because I took the photo in the late afternoon but the room is actually well-lit making a dark color practical. We’ve been way too busy until now to paint so the paint we’re covering is the original yellow-tinted neutral the builder applied. Unfortunately, even with a paint + primer mix you can tell if you look closely it’ll need a second coat. It will, however, only need two coats in total. This is no fault of the paint. The wall is soaking it up like a sponge. The second coat applies beautifully. We’ve used this same paint in two other rooms so far and it turns out great. I have no doubts any future painting we do will go on gracefully in a single coat.

I enjoy painting. I find it relaxing, so what I really wanted for Mother’s Day was a few uninterrupted hours so I could work on it. I’m happy with the progress I made. I have one more wall left untouched with no trimming besides the molding and light switches. It’ll be the easiest one in the whole room. I used a 2.5″ edging brush, a 2″ corner brush, a small roller, and a normal sized 1.5″ roller. The small roller worked well for above the arch and inside and around the windows. I don’t personally use painters tape, but I highly recommend it to anyone else. I find it an annoyance, but you really can cause more work for yourself without it than it takes to use it. Skipping it requires a steady hand and a lot of patience. Last but not least I keep a damp rag with me. If I do make a mistake on our moulding it’s painted with a washable paint. If I see it right away I can wipe any drips or accidental marks off and it’s like they never even happened. This may come in handy even if you do use painter’s tape. Oh, and wear some old clothes. I’ve yet to get through a painting project without wearing at least a little of it.

I’m looking forward to sharing another photo when it’s finished! Hopefully I’ll get it wrapped up this weekend but I’m not sure. With all the rain I may start something else instead and hold off. No need to be painting if it’s not comfortable to open the windows.

    1. Thank you for coming by! I’m enjoying it already. It’s so nice to go around and see what everyone else is up to as well as sharing what I’m doing. I’ll definitely share a lot more! There are so many things I want to do. I just need to be careful not to start too many at once or none of them will ever finish.

    1. I’m glad you like it! I’ll have to put up some better lit pictures when it’s finished. At the end of May we’re going to finally get the rest of our bedroom set. Hopefully by then I’ll have it all painted and I can share the whole room.

Nice to meet you too! Thank you for hopping over to say hi. I really appreciate the visit.
